Team: Jess, Lila, Will, Scott, Ray
In mid 1990s, Mr Pringle summoned the group into his office and inflicted team building HR bullshit upon us. Naturally, most of the group lied about which was the lie or the truth. Scott continues to be redacted.
After surviving that traumatic horrific experience (for which we did not take stress for some reason), we were given our assignment.
Tom and Karen Jeong lived happily in a house in Milton Keynes, with their son, Nicolas. She worked as a party supplies organiser and he was a data technician, working from home.
They had a bug infestation in the garden of red and green flying hornets with many legs, around two inches long - rather like flying centipedes. They summoned a company, Beacon and Howe, who did come and did take the hive away after about a week. Oddly, they did not charge the couple of all. However, the bugs returned! They started inhabiting squirrels and other small furry creatures.
Sadly, after Tom went to the offices to complain, he was killed in a tragic car accident on the way home. For some reason, Karen spread his ashes into the garden, where the bugs were.
Interestingly, the family did not exist prior to this, nor did the rooms in our archives or the statements found in there from an institute that also did not exist. Shortly after "not existing" these things suddenly had proof that they had always existed...
We started out by visiting our friendly bug exterminators. Their shop was in a run down location, where their building had clearly remained while the shopping centre grew up around them. The shop itself was dirty, with an interesting amount of bugs for someone who claims to get rid of them. They had chemicals on their shelves, dust on everything, and had no phone nor toilet.
The two of them were identical, only able to tell them apart by the labels on their overalls. Beacon, the talkative one of the pair (comparatively speaking), shut down any opening from any conversation, finally informing Lila they were closed. Ray and Jess snooped around behind, emerging when Lila spoke loudly to warn them. I mean, it is probably what they were doing - Jess came out doing up her flies so... your miliage may vary.
Having loaded up with flame throwers of sorts, petrol, bug suits and other useful supplies, we drove over to visit the Yungs. We introduced ourselves and found that Karen was in her room, with Nicolas telling us she was busy. Eventually, he was persuaded to call her and she finally allowed Jess, Scott and Lila to enter. While Scott made tea, Lila and Jess talked with her, and tried to persuade her to admit the situation. The house had a considerable amount of destruction and neglect, including broken plates, and other damage. Lila was bitten by one of the bugs and went up to the bathroom, where she heard a noise in the bedroom. She opened the door and...
In the bedroom, the bugs had rebuilt Tom into a Bug Man. Lila shut the door and held it closed, while warning the others (or yelled in horror down the stairs at them). Then we all, as Jess eloquently puts it, got the fuck out of there. Karen locked the door behind us.
Scott kindly drove Lila, who was considering whether going Buzz was in her future, to the site at Bletchley Park, while the others monitored the situation. Shortly after they left, the Bug Men van drove up, with the pair of them emerging like silent, weird bug afficionados. Jess informed them that they were not allowed in, whereupon they walked right past her. Jess chose to slash their tyres.
Ray just stood in front of the back gate and said no, repeatedly until they just left, driving off their van with the flat tyres.
Lila and Scott returned, with a lack of Buzzzing in Lila's future. The crew decided the best thing would be to get Karen and Nicolas out and burn the whole bugridden nest down. We checked the plan with Mr Pringle...
In an act of thoughtfulness, Scott and Lila again left to get a van from which Nicola and Karen would not have to watch Tom being burnt "alive". While they were gone, bug men returned again, with fixed tyres. Jess attempted a discussion with them to no little success - to summarise, they like bugs, they collect them to talk to them, they have been doing this for a long time...
Meanwhile, Ray blocked the back gate to Howe, who wanted to take his bottle of Zyclon B into the house. Ray rugby tackled him when it seemed he would going to hit it with a pickaxe, and Will caught the bottle and took it to the front. At that point, Ray and Howe followed him... Lila and Scott returned with the van.
After a brief discussion, the Bug Men were allowed to go and collect the bugs, the team having decided they had both the experience and the knowledge to do so. Then Karen and Nicolas were extracted by Scott, Ray and Will (with some effort as Tom fought them fiercely), locked in the van, while the house was burnt. Supersoakers are, for the record, excellent for spreading petrol.
Karen and Nicolas have been taken to the institute for amnestic treatment.
